Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from In the Service of Youth: Chapters on Certain Phases of the Teaching of English in Junior and Senior High Schools
The contents of this book are based in considerable part upon lectures delivered by the author to teacher-students at Johns Hopkins University and at the College of the City of New York, in 1922 and 1923; and upon articles that have appeared from time to time in educational periodicals, definite place ment of which is given at various points throughout the text. Both lectures and articles have been thoroughly reworked in some cases condensed, in others elaborated, in all revised. The book represents an attempt to suggest methodology for the classroom teaching of certain phases of English work in junior and senior high schools. It is in the main a how-to-do book, but there is some theory presented as suitable basis, it is hoped, for the concretization of method and practice.
