"The popular and well-known poem "Footprints" describes a life lived in the footsteps of Jesus. The anonymous author of this timeless verse speaks of how, on a daily basis, the Christian walks alongside Jesus. Confident of the Lord's presence in his life, the man, when reviewing his life by observing their footprints in the sand, notes that "at the very lowest and saddest times in his life" only one set of footprints was observable. Bothered by the apparent lack of Jesus' presence at these critical junctures of life, he voices his complaint to the Lord. But Jesus responds, "My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." This poem teaches an important lesson concerning the Christian life, namely that if we ask for the Lord's presence in our life, he will never abandon us, but rather will draw even closer
