Publisher's Synopsis

Albert Victor Goodsir was one of the original members of the 36th Infantry Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force also known as "Carmichael's Thousand." Goodsir was born at Newcastle, New South Wales and later grew up in Toronto, Lake Macquarie, New South Wales where with his cousin, Harry Cleveland Goodsir, they loved to play football, soccer and cricket and played together on the same team from the Port Stephens district. The cousins would at one time also serve with the same Infantry Battalion but would be in different companies. Albert would also see his share of trench warfare and battles in both Flanders and France during the course of the Great War. Like his cousin he would never return home. This then is the narrative of Albert Victor Goodsir who paid the ultimate sacrifice on the field of battle in the Somme.
