Orthodontic therapy ranges from dealing with craniofacial complex growth and development to movement of teeth through adjacent periodontal tissues. This is due to the fact that the diet controls the individual's periodontal state, oral flora, healing potential, immunological response, and growth, whereas orthodontic therapy influences food intake, quality, and consistency of the same. There is an interdependence between the consequences of orthodontic therapy on nutrition and vice versa. Certain kinds of dietary practices also have an impact on the different mechanical properties of orthodontic appliances commonly employed during treatment.
