The consumption of alcoholic beverages has been observed among various civilizations since the inception of recorded history. Realizing the social and health implications of alcohol dependence on the addicts, especially the young generation, their families, and friends, government agencies have launched several alcohol recovery treatments and programs. One such initiation is the 12-step alcoholic anonymous program that assists people in recovering from the clutches of alcoholism through self-management. The present study, therefore, aims at evaluating the efficiency of this program through the comprehension of its impact on reducing alcoholism in society. The study offers valuable insight into self-management programs and further highlights recommendations and future direction of research in this domain.
