To avoid the toxicity of currently-used immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory drugs, new drugs - including purine synthesis inhibitors, brequinar, and the macrolides FK-506 and rapamycin - have been developed.;This volume reviews the actions of these drugs and the results of their clinical and experimental trials. Applications also considered include prevention of organ-graft rejection; treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and liver disease; and early diagnosis and prevention of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.;The papers featured in this collection were originally presented at the "Immunosuppressive and Antiinflammatory Drugs" conference, held from 12-15 April 1993.
