Publisher's Synopsis
Azzura DeCarlo is an African American/Italian girl who has decided to live her life as a Caucasian American woman after a series of traumatic misfortunes in her life. While her choice is clear, and maybe even justified, there are consequences that comes with such a decision as she is left to continuously perpetrate a lie in order keep her identity hidden. Her position as a reporter at a prominent New York magazine and relationship to her African American college boyfriend Malik will all be affected by her mental construct of race and play an intricate part in this interesting story about love, sexuality, and the psychological and spiritual aspects of her identity crisis. Malik tries to transform Azzura and have her accept her black side, and although he succeeds at first, he will soon suffer the consequences of trying to change her. After graduating from her Ivy league school, Azzura soon becomes close to a senator who is running for president and becomes entangled in a life of lies and deceit. She struggles to do what is right after she reaches a powerful position that can create change in the world, but soon realizes her lie has been exposed and has to make a decision whether to run or stand up for who she is.
