Publisher's Synopsis
This is a treatment which is intended to be accessible both to students proceeding to an honours degree in mathematics, and to readers with scientific, engineering or industrial backgrounds. The presentation is intended to be comprehensive enough with regard to basic mathematical techniques and methods to avoid the necessity for either preparatory study or reference outside the text.;Although primarily a theoretical text, the book offers physical applications and examples covering a range of practical problems. A detailed description and discussion of the physical properties of fluids is also included. The use of units in general, and the now widely-used SI units in particular, are highlighted in an appendix.
