This collection contains 540 peer-reviewed papers that present the most current transportation engineering research. Of particular interest, China has embarked on a massive construction program of a high-speed rail network. This network will change the landscape of passenger transportation in China, but it will also alter the global vision of rapid and long distance travel of people and freight. New technologies in planning, design, construction, operation, and management are needed for the new high-speed rail network and many other modes of transportation.
