Publisher's Synopsis
This text presents a summary of the present ideas on the world amphipod fauna of suborder hyperiidea. The general part includes a description of the suborder and notes on the taxonomy and phylogeny of the Hyperiidea. Special features of their morphology are briefly considered and patterns of vertical and geographic distribution discussed. A correlation has been shown between the vertical distribution and latitudinal area of distribution for various taxonomic groups of Hyperiidea an also the common features and differences among the hyperiidean fauna of different oceans.;The taxonomic part contains diagnoses and keys to the suborder Hyperiidea, relating to 23 families, 72 genera and 233 species. Detailed descriptions are given, particularly for those families posing the maximum difficulty for identification.
