Publisher's Synopsis

Julia Ann Demoville, Mrs. Irby Morgan (1827- 1906) was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. Her husband, Irby Morgan (1819-1894) served in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War under his brother General John Tyler Morgan (1824-1907). Irby also actively supported the Confederacy by raising money and acquiring goods for the army. Mrs. Morgan worked as a nurse in her home in the early part of the war, but her family fled across the South, stopping in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Marietta, Georgia, and finally Augusta, Georgia, where they lived until the war ended. Her memoir, How it Was; Four Years Among the Rebels (1892), records her experiences during the war.
