Publisher's Synopsis
Travis shares how it is hard for him to like others without harassing them or being too into them. Travis works hard to learn and understand unwritten social rules and boundaries that he struggles with because of autism. Travis is afraid of liking new people or wanting to make new friends because he fears that he might end up harassing them just by liking them. This is a great book about autism. Many people without autism struggle with unwritten social rules and boundaries. Imagine being on the autism spectrum and not having any clue that these social rules or boundaries even exist. They are unwritten rules that you cannot just go pick up a book and read about. Because they are an unlearned skill that most humans pick up on automatically it makes it hard for other people to teach people with autism these unwritten rules and boundaries. This is not a subject that we teach in school, however it should be and would not only help children with autism, but it would help all children improve their social skills. Travis explains how his brain works like an on and off switch. He either really likes someone and wants to text them 100 times per day or he is not interested in getting to know him at all. It can be frustrating to not have any of those grey areas or in-between levels where you could maybe text them 25 times per day instead of 100 or 0 but Travis' brain was not programmed that way. This book will give you insight into the daily struggle that someone with autism might face in friendships and social relationships. This is a great tool for parents and educators of children with autism.
