The adequacy of housing land supply has frequently been a matter of contention. This report is an investigation into the potential role of a particular statistical series - the statistics collected on form PS3 by the Department of the Environment - in contributing to an understanding of the adequacy of the housing land supply. The PS3 Statistics record the area of land with outstanding planning permission for private residential development as at the end of March each year, and the anticipated number of dwelling represented by this land.
