Second edition of Stelsius' edition of Chrysostom's commentary on Matthew (first 1548) in a sensitively restored Oxford binding of the early seventeenth century. John Chrysostom (347-407), - the epithet an Anglicisation of Chrystotomos or, golden mouthed - Archbishop of Constantinople, is exceeded only by Augustine of Hippo in the quantity of his surviving writings. Here, his commentary on Matthew's gospel in attractive Dutch edition. The binding features one of the 'distinctive family of centrepieces (Ker called it the 'pincers' design) [which] is strongly associated with Oxford' (Pearson, p. 55).
