Vielleicht wird man es tadeln, dass ich f�r das Gedicht in metrischer Beziehung wenig oder nichts getan habe. Wo] ist es meine Ansicht, dass der Dichter des Heliand regelm�ssige all�terierende Verse gebaut habe, und dass die Regellosigkeit der uns vorliegenden die Folge von Interpolationen sei, deren gr�ssere Anzahl, wenn nicht alle, eine k�hne und geschickte Hand gar wol beseitigen k�nne; aber meine Hand sollte das nicht tun. Mir kam es darauf an, in dieser ersten handlichen Ausgabe das Gedicht in seiner �berlieferten Form bequem und deutlich vor Augen zu stellen.
