Publisher's Synopsis

This work is a history of the Old Cheraw District of South Carolina and of the settlement of the territory now part of the eight Pedee counties of Chesterfield, Darlington, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg, from their first settlement in the 1730s down to 1810, with lists of early land grantees and genealogical notices of early families and sketches of individuals. This book includes an alphabetical list of some 500 Old Cheraws veterans of the Revolutionary War. The Clearfield version is a reprint of the expanded edition of Bishop Gregg's "Old Cheraws", as published in 1925, and John Dargan's 81-page Addenda to the original edition prepared in 1924.
