Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from History of the Cavalry of the Army of the Potomac, Including That of the Army of Virginia (Pope's), And Also the History of the Operations of the Federal Cavalry in West Virginia During the War
Only seven companies of cavalry took part in the battle of Bull Run, but the firm front which they dis played while covering the precipitate retreat of the Federal army probably saved a large proportion of the army from annihilation by Stuart's cavalry, and has never received the recognition which it deserved.
