Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from History of London

In the two succeeding centuries the City arose again, and appears to have enjoyed peace and prosperity. It would seem to have consisted of houses which stood in gardens and orchards and were irregularly disposed. Because it was conveniently situated on the Thames the Romans made it the Chief centre of their road system, a circumstance which was to give it an unrivalled place in the mediaeval kingdom.
