Publisher's Synopsis
This 250 page, 8" x 11" book is a local history of the Big Laramie River Valley, Jelm and Woods Landing, all lying at the foot of Jelm Mountain in southeastern Wyoming. In 1880, a "white-whiskered con man" named John Cummins pulled a scam resulting in the rise and fall of Cummins City, now known a ghost town known as Old Jelm. But there is more to the story than just the "Cummins City Caper," as the author calls the scam. A thriving community, centered at Woods Landing, now extends up and down the four-mile long valley. A sourcebook as well as a history, the book covers the period from the Civil War until 1930. It contains numerous pictures (most black and white, but some color), maps, stories, records and detailed source material. The index is extensive. This edition is color. A black and white edition is also available.
