The lectures were very imperfectlv prepare ed. In the autumn the approaching cold made it necessary for me to go South. At the various cities of the South I found a desire to hear respecting the Sandwich Is lands' mission. 1 therefore lectured, in some places more, and in other places less - at Baltimore, Fayetteville, N. C.; Columbia and Charleston, S. C.; Augusta, Ga; Montgomery and Mobile, Aa.; New 0rd leans and Natchez. My lectures were part ly historical and partly on the duty of Christians to evangelize the heathen. The characteristic fervor and warm-hearted pie ty of Christians at the South led them to feel much, and to request repeatedly that the'substance of what I had communicated might be sent to them afterward in a printed form.
