Before leaving this subject of the early surveys it may be mentioned that in 1749 the Loyal* Company was formed by Colonel James Patton, Dr. Thomas Walker, and others, with a grant of acres of land to be located north of the North Carolina line and west of the Alleghany Mountains. In that year Colonel Patton and W'illiam Ingles visited Burk's Garden and located land there.
