Nous venons de dire le mot les chefs - d' oeuvre de la peinture de batailles ont toujours causé dans la masse du public de profondes émotions, et c'est déjà un criterium qui n'est point si mauvais, bien que nous n'adoptions guère pour prin cipe artistique le vox populi, vox Dei. Mais ici, il s'agit d'émotions d'une nature particulière d'émotions dra matiques, et dans ce cas, le premier passant venu a voix au chapitre.
