Publisher's Synopsis
Vocational Higher Education has been seen as a neglected, but essential, aspect of the HE of the future. The creation of Lifelong Learning Networks (LLNs) was one way of addressing this area's needs. This book is the story of a three-year project to improve access to vocational higher education in the eastern part of the Yorkshire & Humber region of the UK. It describes the impediments to vocational higher - education identified by the HE providers (colleges and University) working together as the Yorkshire & Humber East Lifelong Learning Network (YHELLN) and the initiatives developed, introduced and applied to overcome those barriers. - YHELLN met or exceeded all of its targets. The true aim of YHELLN and the outcome against which those involved would wish to be judged was cultural change - the creation of a culture in which partners work together to place vocational (and other) learners at the centre and in control of their learning. This book celebrates their view of the achievements of the YHELLN partners during a unique three-year experiment. - They hope it will allow readers to take up from where they nished and continue to look for better ways to support lifelong learning, wherever, with whomever and for whatever reason it happens.
