Publisher's Synopsis
This work provides an explication of the techniques and interpretation of electrophoresis and immunofixation. Since the first edition was published, significant advances have been made in both the technology of serum protein electrophoresis and in the knowledge of electrophoretic patterns that are encountered when using high-resolution electrophoresis and immunofixation. To reflect this, the figures in the second edition show examples of several methods of staining, including Beckman gels, Panagel technique and acetate gel (Cellogel).;The book also features the changes in the evaluation of urine for Bence Jones Protein and immunofixation patterns, and the urine ladder pattern. In addition, it covers the concept of studying nasal and aural fluids in order to detect CSF leakage due to skull fracture or tumour, and the three strategies to detect monoclonal gammopathies are presented.
