Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Her Father's Legacy: A Story for Girls
IT was a dreary wet morning in February. A chill, ice-like rain was falling. The skies were leaden hued, to match the dingy pavements.
In an office high up in the grain-exchange Building, two men were sitting. They were both good-looking men, after their types, and both in the prime of life. They sat facing one another and each wore an expression of repressed excitement. The taller of the two men, and of the more prepossessing appearance, sat forward in his chair, his head bent and his hands drop ping dejectedly down between his knees.
