A transcription of the diary kept between March and November 1915 by Private Sidney Richards, who served with the Machine-Gun Section of the 1/5th Battalion, The South Staffordshire Regiment, together with his account of his experiences at Gommecourt on 1 July 1916 with 137th Brigade Machine Gun Company. The booklet also includes extracts from letters written by his comrades of the Machine-Gun Section of 1/5th South Staffords and biographical information on soldiers that Richards mentions in his diary entries.
