Excerpt from Handbook of British, Continental and Canadian Universities: With Special Mention of the Courses Open to Women, Supplement for 1901, Compiled for the Graduate Club of Bryn Mawr College
The object of the Handbook of British, Continental and Can adian Universities is fully explained by its title, and may be found stated in the preface to the edition published in 1899. The Supplement is designed to indicate the changes that have taken place since the publication of the Handbook, and as far as possible to make the lists of the professors and lecturers at the different Universities and Colleges correct for the summer of 1901. In some universities announcements of courses for the ensuing semester are made very shortly in advance of the open ing of the semester and in others the calendars and programs are published after great delay; on the whole, however, the lists given are, it is hoped, sufficiently accurate to be of service.
The Supplement is arranged alphabetically in the same man ner as the Handbook, and a comparison of the information given in the Handbook with that given in the Supplement shows the changes that have been made. The appendix gives a list of the most important Fellowships and Scholarships for study abroad open to American students.
The editor wishes to express her thanks to all those who have so kindly supplied information and corrections, and will be grate ful for corrections of any errors that may still have been over looked.
