I could have considerably increased the number of cases and prescriptions from my own practice, but I have selected only a few, and preferred giving all those which have been hitherto published by others with the prescriptions, which will give the student an Opportunity of learning the practice of other professional men. My reason for inserting four cases immediately after the description of the commencing posi tions is, that I originally intended the work to be much shorter than it is, by not continuing it beyond those cases.
