Reference works are divided into five major sections - general reference, humanities, social sciences, history and area studies, and pure and applied science. Introductory material for each of the 48 subdivisions briefly describes the nature and scope of reference material available. Each entry includes a descriptive annotation and most are accompanied by Library of Congress call numbers.
