Publisher's Synopsis
Previously published as Granny's Lessons for Success by Uchechi C. Oji.This short fiction, a handbook in pictures, is full of lessons for real life. The setting of the story is in rural Africa, where these grandparents take care of their grandchildren. While the grandmother narrates her lessons, parts of the story are explained further so that the reader can understand the environment they live in and the customs of this family. The story will take you on the journey back to the times when children may go barefoot, sit on the floor while learning and do a number of household chores independently. The reader must understand that this style of living once existed and is still prevalent in some communities today. This story highlights the hidden beauty within these communities. Most importantly, it tells the roles their grandfather plays in the governance of his community and the lessons for success their grandmother teaches so that their grandchildren can grow up independently and with certain skills and behaviour that are commendable and of great value even in our present times. There are appendices and activities at the end of the book to teach children how to be socially responsible in their community and to better understand, remember and personalise the lessons.
