Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Grammaire Franaise, a L'usage Des lves De L'enseignement Secondaire
Teachers using a French grammar written in French should guard against the desire to cover a large amount of ground. Work, both written and oral, must be accurate and orderly if the best results are to be obtained, and upon the first year depends in a large measure the success of succeeding years. This grammar may be put into the hands of the pupil im mediately after an accurate pronunciation of vowels, conso nants, syllables and words has been secured and may be used in connection with any simple reading book. At first many explanations must be made in English, then repeated in French, till the pupil's vocabulary is increased and French alone may be used. All rules must be perfectly understood before being learned and nothing should be assigned for a home lesson which has not been thoroughly explained in class. These home lessons must necessarily be short during the first weeks, but the greatest accuracy both in pronuncia tion and expression should be required.
