Though apparently their captivity was the greatest of calamities, sent in punishment for Sin, in the mercy of God, it was also designed and made effectual in preparing them to afterwards receive and enjoy a larger and truer liberty, and a greater measure of Divine favor and bless ing, than before was possible.
