Publisher's Synopsis
This text defends a special focus on Jesus in theistic faith, whilst denying his divinity. Having limited the genuine choice in Christology to orthodoxy or unitarianism, it argues first for the prior improbability of an incarnation, examining and dismissing possible justifications of such an event and also its alleged coherence. The complementary claim is that, when critically assessed, no aspect of the Christ event requires incarnational explanation. The closing chapters affirm the positive place of Jesus in religious life.
