Publisher's Synopsis
The following pages are mere scribblings, really, not intended to be a definitive treatment of the subject. Over the years, when the mood struck me (or, more often than not, when I was especially aggravated by what I perceived to be the excesses and follies of human superstition), I've put my thoughts down in writing. Sometimes the result was a sort of informal essay. At other times I might succinctly express a single idea that had occurred to me. And then there were rants - not all of a polite, dignified nature. Occasionally, I engaged in humor or even sarcasm to make my point. Because in my own life I have finally gone beyond dwelling on the frustratingly intransigent nature of non-empirically derived beliefs, I came near allowing these hastily jotted-down arguments, critical analyses and general ridicule to languish forever. Now and again I considered disposing of them outright. But some friends have recently told me that they enjoy my "one-offs" on the Nonthink exhibited by so many in our world. Furthermore, I've received a fair amount of feedback from those who have found the conclusions I've reached - and often my methodology - not only stimulating and sound, but helpful in formulating their own thoughts on these subjects and defending their own views when faced with Nonthinking opponents. It is for these reasons that I've decided to bring my decidedly simple musings to public accessibility. Please do not expect any profundity here; I am not a philosopher or a scientist. What I've collected together in this little chapbook are merely the musings of an ordinary man who has devoted too much of his preciously short sojourn on the planet to reflecting on the collective absurdities we cloak under the guise of subjective beliefs. If these words, which gleefully flout superstitious propensities, are judged to be of value by readers, then my effort to present them in published form will not have been a wasted one.
