Publisher's Synopsis
Contains the results of IGCP Project 107, which considered the role of global tectonic movement in the formation of folds, faults and cleavages (tectogenesis). The existence of global pulses of tectonic and magmatic activity is the basis of the concept of orogenic phases. This general problem is associated with the problem of lateral continuity of diverse tectonic events, and with the more fundamental one of the existence of a global mechanism of tectogenesis. The book examines these related topics and reflects the current investigations in the field. Contains maps of most of the areas under study, which illustrate the epochs of tectogenesis. Methods of approach and legends are also described in detail.
