Publisher's Synopsis
The adoption of carrier bag theories, whether in fiction or architecture, brings a radical change to the images we have inherited through the paintings on the walls of prehistoric caves, through stories or through the modern cityscape. Thus moving from the image of a weapon to a carrier bag eventually transforms the whole scene from a heroic, legendary story of destruction to a collaborative, unfamiliar life story. As architects, can we change our ossified perceptions of beauty and functionality? What if we listen to and understand the stories of abandoned buildings, rather than focusing on more heroic examples? Published on the occasion of the Turkish Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in 2023, this book presents the research behind the pavilion exhibition that featured an open call.
