Publisher's Synopsis
The Heroine. The Phantom. The Scholar. The Soldier. Pulled together by the strings of fate to wage war against gods with the power of Speed Metal.
After a series of escalating tragedies leaves the life of Amelie Trace in ashes, she escapes Victorian London for a chance to start anew in a rural village. When she comes across a notation for a strange song in the schoolhouse, Amelie finds the rumours of monsters stalking in the woods to be true, and that she has become a threat in a war beyond mortal ken.
Far in the future, a young woman named Dancer assembles her cadre of heroes for a battle through time. She seeks the Ghost Notes, an arcane score containing the secrets of Speed Metal, last seen in a rural English village. Only the magic of Speed Metal may silence the song of the gods fuelling their civil war with human suffering, and give the world a brighter future than the wasteland of darkness and death their war has created.
Are heroes born, or are they made? Are they moulded by loss and sacrifice, or appointed by fate--or worse, the gods? In time, Dancer and her friends must find the answer if they wish to bring an end to an endless conflict. A tale of romance, adventure, and Speed Metal, Ghost Notes is a modern fantasy epic.
- ★★★★★ Interesting and Enjoyable - The book is a very enjoyable read. There is a bit of everything in the story: fantasy, adventure, drama, craziness: D, etc. You can certainly take the book as a fun read or as a food for some philosophical thought. - Soukaina
- ★★★★★ This is a book with probably my favourite opening line ever. - Ghost Notes is certainly not what it seems at first glance. It's a tale of adventure that turns dark at times but is well balanced out by Meriläinen's signature witty dialogues end great pacing. When necessary the book doesn't hesitate to yank at the reader's heartstrings, too. I really felt the characters hardships and tragedies as well as their companionship and mirth... - Barbara
- ★★★★ The atmosphere in this book was amazing. I drank it up. - Meriläinen sets up the mood in the opening chapters and I was riveted. Without offering spoilers I can tell you that the book contains some music (ghost notes and all) which is not exactly my cup of tea, so I grew a bit concerned when I got to that part. But Meriläinen navigates the pitfalls of music in books. The atmosphere, character building and steadily paced story will make me come back for more from this author... - S. Sak
