Publisher's Synopsis

Contamination of soil and ground water are problems common to develop as well as developing countries. Their effects on health and the deterioration of natural resources transcend national boundaries. In order to map out current and future geoenvironmental issues facing the Americas, a workshop on ""Geoenvironmental Issues Facing the Americas"" was held in Mayagujez, Puerto Rico, September, 1994. Its purpose was to bring together selected researchers and practitioners from academics, government, and industry to exchange information and ideas relating to geoenvironmental issues in the western hemisphere. This publication contains the papers submitted by the workshop attendees, the breakout group summaries, and other general information pertaining to the program. It is intended that by incorporating all this information, this volume will truly benefit the geoenvironmental research and practice communities of the Americas. To reflect the desire to foster cooperation, the summaries of the breakout discussion groups are presented in both English and Spanish.
