Gender socialization results in stereotypes that usually operate towomen's disadvantage socially, politically, and economicallybecause certain characteristics seen as feminine are viewed as lessdesirable than characteristics commonly viewed as masculine. thecommunity college needs to be responsive to changes in Americansociety and thus responsive to the actual, not stereotypicallyconceived, needs of female and male students, faculty, andadministrators. Being sensitive to the relationship between gAnderand power provides institutional leaders with an opportunity to bepathfinders in higher education.
