English summary: The notion of the aobject is at the center of this collection of philosophical essays. What an object or a thing is, in which way one encounters it and what constitutes its objectivity remains a central topic of contemporary epistemology. The authors of the essays collected here discuss the notion of the object with regard to its relation to the following other notions or related fields: world, subjectivity, personhood, freedom, language, interpretation and science. This discussion leads to a redefinition of objectivity. The basis and catalyst for the contributions to this volume is a recent account of contemporary hermeneutics offered by Gunter Figal in his work Oppositionality . Since the reflection of the conditions under which objects are given has not only been at the center of recent hermeneutics but has been an important topic in German idealism, most notably in the works of Kant and Hegel, Neo-Kantianism and phenomenology (Heidegger, Husserl and Merleau-Ponty), this volume is set up as a dialogue between these concepts and various philosophical approaches to the question of objectivity.


German description: Was ein Gegenstand ist, in welcher Weise seine Gegenstandlichkeit begegnet und worin deren Objektivitat liegt, bleibt ein zentrales Thema der Philosophie. Das Anliegen dieses Sammelbandes besteht primar darin, die Moglichkeiten eines erkenntnistheoretischen Realismus frei von szientistischen Reduktionismen auszuloten, ohne auf den Standpunkt eines naiven Positivismus zuruckzufallen. In diesem Sinne untersuchen die Autoren den Begriff der Gegenstandlichkeit in Bezug auf die Themen Welt, Subjektivitat, Freiheit, Personalitat, Sprache, Interpretation und Wissenschaft - dies im Spannungsfeld einer moglichen Neubewertung von Objektivitat. Ausgangspunkt und Anlass der Erorterungen ist das Selbstverstandigungsprojekt der gegenwartigen Hermeneutik und ihre Frage nach der gegenstandlichen Entsprechung interpretatorischer Erkenntnis, deren Sachhaltigkeit sich primar durch den interpretierten Gegenstand und nicht durch das interpretatorische Tun allein bestimmt. Da die Reflexion auf die Bedingungen, unter denen Gegenstande objektiv gegeben sind, nicht nur ein Anliegen von Hermeneutik und Phanomenologie ist, sondern bereits im Deutschen Idealismus, bei Kant, Hegel und im Neukantianismus problematisiert wird, ist der Band als ein sach- und richtungsubergreifender Dialog konzipiert.
