Publisher's Synopsis

The expanding use of gases at high temperatures and pressures in a variety of fields has increased the need for coherent and accurate equations of gas dynamics and tables of gasdynamic functions. This monograph describes the mechanics of a real gas and provides tables of gasdynamic functions for solving problems of gas flows over wide temperature and pressure ranges. The data is intended to be of use to engineers engaged in the design and operation of nuclear and electric power plants, natural-gas drillholes, aircraft gas turbines and refrigeration equipment with turbine-driven compressors, as well as to aerospace engineers and geophysicists concerned with applications in high pressure and high temperature atmospheres (eg Venus). The author presents brief derivations of differential equations of thermodynamics with corresponding property data for nine extensively used gases. The data are arranged in accessible tables for calculating gasdynamic functions over a range of parameters and the text is accompanied by a list of symbols for reference.
