Human race is a member of the Alliance of the Intelligent Clusters - an entity created by ancient non-humanoid civilizations governing the known Universe. Fanagor is a disciple of the most respected Teacher on Earth, and his skills in Magic are phenomenal. Fanagor is surprised to receive an Invitation to the Laboratory where the Alliance is trying to solve the most crucial enigma: why do all life-forms, stars, galaxies and even the Universe die? After the Invitation, something horrible crawls out of the shadows and furiously hunts Fanagor - something disconnected from the material world. Fanagor fights, but neither his friends nor all the knowledge of the primordial omnipotent races can help him. The evil is powerful, and it is trying to destroy Fanagor and the whole Universe. The end of life in the Universe is at stake, and only a mystic Galactic Legend could offer help: the Legend of Life and Death that tells truths about the futility of the world, about extinct civilizations and intelligent black holes, about dying galaxies and previous Universes. And Fanagor is the only one who has the power to use the Legend and to strike against Death.
