Inspector Conal Brophy is presented with conflicting cases when a young woman goes missing from outside her mother's house, and a couple of nights later, a skeleton is found behind a pub in a village a few miles away. It's only a matter of time before the cases present clues that show they might well be connected. As Brophy enters a world of occult depravity in his hunt for the missing woman, he figures out a killer may be resurfacing after three decades underground. Brophy's mental health issues come to the fore, and his actions end up compromising the entire investigation. But just when he thinks the killer might have returned to the shadows, the unthinkable happens. Will he catch him and find the missing woman alive, or will she become another unsolved mystery for the records?
