Publisher's Synopsis
Alexandre Bissonnette lived a life as a hermit, a Romantic, and a down-and-out before settling down and doing his best to piece together the remaining fragments of his novel. His friend Georges helps him in his task, but soon discovers that Alexandre's writings are incapable of being pieced together; they merely compose a jeremiad-a litany of complaints-about the state of the West and its inevitable decline. Alexandre, in turn, endeavors to complete the editing of the novel himself, only to see, once and for all, that he too cannot escape the fate of Western man-a proud, but tragic, figure.
