From Talking to Handwriting Key Stages 1 & 2

This work offers a strategy for teaching handwriting that encourages pupils to describe the sequence of movements in the formation of letters. The book includes assessment and photocopiable practice sheets. It is specifically designed to be used by teachers of Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils.;Children need to be taught accurate letter formation if they are to develop fluent, joined writing. An understanding of the sequence of movements and the links between groups of letters can be reinforced if pupils are encouraged to talk about how the letters are formed.;This book provides: a strategy for teaching the names, shapes, sounds and recognition of letters; an assessment of motor skills, posture and perceptual ability before a pupil begins to write, or if they are having problems; an assessment of the correct letter formation; five-letter groups showing links in their sequence of movement, devised through research and discussion with children themselves; advice on the transition from pencil to pen and joining skills; and photocopiable worksheets for pupils to practise both print and joined writing.
