Publisher's Synopsis
This book concentrates on the activities of Jewish immigrants in the textile industry of The Netherlands in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Extensive research by the author has made it possible to present the case histories of virtually all Jewish textile entrepreneurs in that period. The textile industry in general was very important for the Netherlands during this period of industrial development and political upheaval, in view of its colonial ties with what is now Indonesia, the regained independence from France in 1813 and the Belgian secession of 1830.
