The Neighborhood Police Post (NPP) system in Singapore is adapted from the Koban, the Japanese system of community policing based on the principle of close and friendly relations between the police and the residents in each neighborhood. This is the first systematic before-and-after analysis of the public's reaction to such a large-scale social innovation in Singapore. At the international level, it is also the first detailed study of the public's attitudes towards this style of policing.
