Publisher's Synopsis

This study examines the reasons why French mothers work more continuously in full-time jobs than British women, even though, at an aggregate level, their participation rates are similar. It looks at these differences, their implications for women's status in the labour market and how far British and French social policies are responsible.;The data are from two nationally representative surveys, one British and one French. The book also provides advice on how to approach and carry out comparative research. Patricia Walters is a co-author of "Women in Top Jobs: Four Studies in Achievement" and "Women in Top Jobs: 1958-1979".
