Publisher's Synopsis
The impact of international trade liberalization will be immense in many areas, but the effects on women in developing countries is likely to be especially great. Women earn a small proportion of the world's wealth and own a fraction of the world's property; their relative poverty means that their interests are neglected by policy makers who tend to focus on large scale opportunities offered by free trade. This work analyzes the impact of major international trade policies on the economic lives of poor women, and includes case studies from Uganda and Thailand. It calls for changes in international institutions to integrate the interests of women into activities and policies.;This work is published by Community Aid Abroad and distributed by Oxfam in the UK and Ireland.
