Publisher's Synopsis
Freak- Part III; Extinction Enduringly Embargoed! Despite Emmy's staggering intellect, an attempt by her to lead Earth's first manned interstellar exploration to Alpha Proxima ends in failure and death when she tries out a new propulsion system during the forty-year voyage. With her two offspring Gemini and Gemina on their own interstellar exploration to Barnards Star, which will take around sixty years for the round trip, malcontents on Earth take the opportunity to form the Dissidents Political Party. With real democracy now planet-wide under the United Nations, and nationalism greatly reduced, the Dissidents use the huge numbers of the lowest social classes worldwide to push for the Quatermain Dynasty's power to be reigned in and for all future Quatermain scientific researches to be supervised by the U.N. However, the remaining Quatermains have quietly continued pushing scientific boundaries way beyond what they have disclosed. But even they are taken aback when they discover Emmy, during the ill-fated trip, had resolved the last error in Einstein's physics. The potential is enormous, but so is the probable social upheaval, with the Dissenters being the greatest losers. The stage is set for one final confrontation, which will determine Humanity's future. But the Quatermains are committed to working within the planetary legal and democratic framework they helped instigate. So they must devise a method to get the wary voters to endorse their forthcoming latest breakthrough by behaving very imaginatively within the law- and get dealt some unexpectedly curved balls from within their own clan!
